In His Hands – An offering of Easter poetry

In His Hands is a poetic rondeau by Russell MacClaren
In His hands, He holds a cup of wine
and He would have us drink it while we dine.
It is His to pour upon the Earth,
to save us from the sorrow of our birth.
This is the plan of His design.

Those who love are people of His kind.
Only through Love can He our souls refine.
Only with Love can we become of worth,
in His hands.

With godly light all of us will shine
when we drink the essence of the vine.
Then we may join as members of His church
to love His light and glory in rebirth
and walk as brothers with our souls entwined
in His hands.

Not only is this a clear message of Easter, with the sensitivity and insight that we associate with Russell McLaren’s poetry, it is also a first class example of ‘Rondeau’ – a form of poetry which is none to easy to perfect – as it has been here.
